Messy Mess
I have observed and met a number of interesting personalities as part of my messing activities. Now don’t get the wrong ideas, I am talking about our Dining Hall which in Roorkee is referred to as the Mess. Our mess serves food to 300 odd people, 3 times a day all the year round. The grub is not really that great but they try their best.
I have spent a lot of my time in the mess during various mealtimes, waiting to be served and during these times observed many peculiar people whom I live with. I have chronicled here a few of them:
- The Blue Shirt Man : this dude is old, so old that even his beard is greying. And he always arrives in the mess in the same blue shirt with a white line Yet he eats like there is no tomorrow. Rice is his staple diet but the day when puris are served, he goes berserk. If you get stuck behind him on the line to get served, you had it. He just keeps on heaping spoonfuls of rice on his plate and just does not seem to stop. You have to actually nudge him in his enormous back to get him move forward. A caution to anyone: DONT GET STUCK BEHIND THE BLUE SHIRT.
